"Age is just a Number"
Kantilal Keshavlal Sheth, age 96, a true inspiration to all of us. He is a person whose morals are greater than his age and he holds them to the highest regard. In today's day and age, it is rare to find people like him with such morals. He believes in giving, telling the truth and non-violence which is largely based on Gandhian Principles and how he was brought up. He has devoted his life for his family and the society at large.
He was born on the 14th June in 1923 in Patanvav, Gujrat. He and his family moved to Rajkot, Gujrat when he was six months old. As a child, he had always wanted to become a doctor from a very young age. He did his B. SC. (Bachelor of Science) and also got admission into medical colleges. However, at just 20 years old, he had to leave his dream halfway in order to help out in the family business because his father was not in good health. He took care of his 6 sisters and earned for them so that they could get a good education. He took it upon himself to open the office in Mumbai where he did textile exports and local yarn trade. He dominated the textile industry for a really long time in the name of K.T. Group. In the next 15-20 years, he won over 50 awards in Textile, yarn and garment exports from the minister.
He struggled during the British and their reign over India as he was still in school and college at that time. He had many of his family members taken away and prisoned for protesting against the British. As an adolescent, he too, took part in countless non-violent protests led by Mahatma Gandhi in the non-cooperation movement where he was detained by the police. He, along with his family, has started many charities focusing on different aspects of the society. There is an institute called 'Kanta Stri Vikas Gruh' which helps abused women to take a stand and learn to be self-supporting and provides them with comfort which they didn’t receive from their homes. There is the G.T. Sheth Orthopedic Hospital which treats the underprivileged free or almost free of any charge so that they don’t have to bear the burden of payments. There are many other charities which he has helped start and is now the Chairman of all of them. He has also donated a lot of money to other charities to aid them. The phrase 'age is just a number' fits him perfectly as even at 96 years, he still works a little where he manages some of his investments and plays a role in keeping the charities going. The charities he helped set up have been able to shape many young minds and improved the lives of thousands of people and the hard work he has put into the charities is incomparable.
